MTM Publishing is currently coordinating a project entitled Encyclopedia of Encyclopedia of War and American Society, which is to be published by Sage Publications. Peter Karsten, Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh, will be serving as the Editor-in-Chief. The Associate Editors for the project are Professors Mark Grimsley of Ohio State University, Jennifer D. Keene of the University of Redlands, Wayne Lee of the University of Louisville, and Mark P. Parillo of Kansas State University.

The Encyclopedia of Encyclopedia of War and American Society will be a three-volume reference book serving the high school, college, and public library markets. With entries addressing a range of issues from America’s colonial wars to the recent war in Iraq, the encyclopedia will investigate how war-and the military as an institution-has interacted with or affected various facets of American society.

The first two volumes, organized in an A-to-Z format, will include approximately 320-350 articles of varying length and cover a number of thematic categories, such as Arts and Culture; Civil-Military Relations; Economics and Labor; Education; Environment and Health; Gender; Journalism and Media; Law and Justice; Planning/Command and Control; Race and Ethnicity; Religion; Science and Technology; the Veteran Experience; and the wars themselves. The third volume will consist of approximately 200-300 primary documents, including letters, journal entries, speeches, political cartoons, literary excerpts, and posters, as well as a substantive chronology and comprehensive bibliography.
